Yesterday at BSF Sharing day, I shared this story from 3 weeks ago:
One day when having lunch at Brookdale Senior Living on Woodside Road where my friend Gloria lives, a woman asked me to attend a bible study she was starting the next Saturday. I agreed.
I arrived early and had breakfast with Gloria, and the same woman stopped by and told me she couldn’t make it to the study. Gratefully God prepared me in my daily study and I was ready.
It is really fun and the residents are so interesting and ready to participate.
One week I was really convicted in our study in Revelation, thinking of these residents, many of whom are at the end of their lives, and how they need to hear the Good News of Jesus making a way to God for us. So I had my group pray for me, that I could reach the ones that don’t know Him and introduce Him to them. And you know what happens when we pray a prayer like that!
The Saturday after we prayed, I arrived in the room and I was alone. I thought, well, no one is coming today, not even Gloria who I left in the dining room finishing her breakfast. That’s okay, I’ll take this time to be quiet before the Lord, and see what happens.
The silence was broken by a man who came and sat down next to me. He asked what we were doing, I told him it was a Bible Study.
He said "great. I came because I don’t have answers to the crossword puzzles and I figure you could give them to me.”
I answered: “Okay,” I said.
“What kind of questions?”
“All kinds.”
“About Creation?
The Prophets?
The Passover?
Who Jesus Is?
Who David is?
What happened in Jerusalem?
What happens in the end in Revelation?"
He blurted out: “I want you to know I have no interest in religion at all. I just want answers to my crossword puzzles.”
I said, “Great! Jesus Hated Religion!”
He said, “I’m an atheist!” trying to throw me off.
I said, “Great! Jesus loved atheists and my husband is an atheist!”
“Well,” he said, I” think this planet is a mess and He (pointing up) seriously needs a DO OVER!”
I said, “Great! He gets one!"
I went on:
"In the Book of Revelation we read that God will make a new heaven and a new earth and a new Jerusalem, because this place is a mess! Now it’s our job to get ready for that time.”
He just looked at me.
He finally said, "well, if you don’t mind this student coming and asking questions, I will be here."
I said, "Great! So will I."
Please pray for Gordon.
